It’s time for the Ole’ Saturday Homesteading Trading Post and yes as my title says it’s “Yard Sale Day” here at Lil’ Suburban Homestead and I should still say it’s clean up day since next weekend we will be having our greenhouse featured on a local gardening tour.
I love going to go yard sales and shopping at yard sales but I don’t so much like having yard sales it means that I might have to part with some of my great stuff! The funny thing is if you took that same stuff and got rid of it without telling me I probably would not know its missing unless it’s my computer or one of my homesteading books or one of my favorite kitchen tools!
So the inevitable day is here my husband has done most of the tagging, and I have advertised the sale on local websites. I feel a little sorry for my husband because I am not such a willing participant it frustrates him as he is trying to negotiate a sales deal and I am saying “no way I will not sell that iron for less than $4.00. ” My petulance often wins us a few extra bucks at a yard sale so I will probably go through the motions again but it does come from a deep sincerity of a person who really doesn’t want to part with her treasures. Ironically my husband collects the treasures so we are quite a pair! Will I miss that ironing board will it go to a good home? My husband and I even joke about how many items we have 2 of that we just don’t need.
I have received a lot of emails about stuff we have for sale I was actually surprised last year we didn’t receive so many emails I think the economy has inspired many more to re-purpose, re-use, and re-cycle which has been our motto here for years.
So are you a yard sale shopper? Or are you more of a yard sale seller? I am always curious about what others are up to at their homesteads. Are you frantically planting your potatoes? Do you have another blanket in the works? I know I am getting ready to make my niece one soon….oh yes did I mention I have another niece…I have lots of nieces!

Thanks so much for everyone who stop in just to read what is going on here at our Lil’ Suburban Homestead! I know this weekend I will be potato planting and I will be laying down mulch as well. It’s gonna be busy…….Have a fabulous Saturday everyone!
Fondly,
Would’nt I love to be there…I love bargain hunting!
and did we have some bargains 🙂
I LOVE garage sailing! The only problem is I used to fall into the trap of buying too many things because they were such good deals! Now we live too far out for garage sales, but that’s OK. Hope it went well.
So true Rose Petal……..we have had to really cut back on our yard saling excursions they can be addictive on the other hand I worked in the garden most of the day and that is very inexpensive 😉
My two middle sons, aged 14 and 10, and the yard sale junkies in this family. They love spring because so many people start having yard sales. I’m always amazed at how much junk they can bring home for just a couple of bucks.
It is unbelievable to me the deals we usually find and at our yard sale my husband sold everything for great prices its a win win! I stay out of the way for the most part so I don’t mess with his wheeling and dealing 😉
