Whether you call it Refrigerator Oatmeal Muesli, Summer Porridge, Yogurt Oats or any number of other names. This has hit Pinterest and its a new hot item among fans! I have to say I am a huge fan….one I love the idea of using a glass re-usable container with food that has not been treated with chemicals. If we would all eat whole grain foods with less chemicals and less processing we would all be a lot healthier.
I found the base recipe for these and then I tweaked them and came up with two of my own. You know I am going to shoot it to you straight I loved this recipe however my husband was not a fan at all. He said “Is it supposed to look like wallpaper paste?” so if you have not tried it you are going to have to find out what the results will be at your house. It is safe for me to say I won’t be making these for my husband but I will be making them for me!
So here is the Base Recipe:
1/4 C.Oats
1/3 C. milk
1/4 C. yogurt ( I used the Greek non fat so this could have made it a little thicker)
1 generous teaspoon honey
Peach Almond
I added 1/2 oz. crushed almonds
I added a 1/4 C. chopped whole fresh peach
Pinch of Cinnamon (cause its good for you)
Apple Pecan Cinnamon
I added 4 dried apples chopped up
1/2 oz/ pecans crushed up
Pinch of Cinnamon
***Note***I mix all of this up the base recipe plus the extras meaning the Peach Almond or the Apple Cinnamon Pecan (you choose) and then I place it all in a small jelly jar and put a lid on top. Then I place in refrigerator overnight and wake up the next morning and eat until my heart’s content 😉 Each recipe makes one individual portion. You can use fresh or dried ingredients both are great however dried fruit leaves a more intense flavor.
I really hope you enjoy this recipe I know I did. I truly believe that yogurt, oatmeal, and cinnamon are super power foods.
I have to say that this recipe is very sustaining and provides a sense of well-being certainly one you might want to share with your family. It’s also super easy to prepare…you could go ahead and prepare several in the fridge before the upcoming work week. What could be better? Healthy & Convenient and you make it yourself! I am really looking forward to having this in the refrigerator for those mornings that I just can’t get my act together which are numerous so I can just reach in and breakfast will be ready. 😉
Fondly,
