Yurt Kidding….You Stayed in a Yurt for Your Anniversary? You Betcha’!

My husband and I go to Asheville, NC every fall to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary this year we celebrated 22 years.  We started this off and on about 5 years after we got married but the problem was we could not afford to go every year when I stayed at home full-time but now we set aside some money in our budget for this very important yearly tradition.

Also since we are homesteaders we use this as a time to bargain hunt for important homesteading tools, stock up on Apples I have to have enough applesauce and apple products to last me until next Fall. I will have a huge post soon on all of our Apple Processing.   Please stop back by because its going to be an extravaganza of Apples.  We bought 5 bushels of apples, 1 crate of sweet potatoes, a crate of cabbage, dried beans, some fresh products such as peppers, eggplant and zucchini as well.

We met other farmers at the North Asheville Tailgate Market voted the best in the Asheville, NC area and visited with some of them.  I had a breakfast of roasted peppers and some coffee from Andy & Greg’s coffee shop we also stopped in and said hello to him while we were there!  Below is our truck loaded down with all of your fresh local North Carolina food we are bringing home.

I ran into my friend Lisa at “The Way Grandmama does it” at The Moose Cafe her and her husband were their meeting friends and my husband and I were grabbing a scrumptious breakfast the roasted peppers didn’t quite hold me over.  We are so both like-minded in many ways a couple of weeks ago we were in the car driving up to the farmers market in Raleigh when we realized we both booked trips to Asheville the same weekend the coincidences no longer surprise me though as we are just kindred spirits through and through.  Yes that’s her husband behind us! 😉

My husband and I love to search for treasures in Antique malls and thrift stores and I have to say we were not disappointed.  He found me some beautiful Stainless Steel Calphalon Kitchen Utensils and some vintage kitchen items such as a nut grinder, but my favorite item he found me was a $3.00 mint condition leather Oroton handbag made in Australia that probably retails for about $89.00 brand new!  Below is a picture of my husband with the “Nut Crusher”! 😉

We loved staying in our cozy yurt it had a sky light right above the bed……the one hardship was our particular yurt did not have a bathroom in it which was kind of funny because getting to the bath house was quite steep but it was good excercise and worth it to be in the woods remotely for a cozy little hideaway for the weekend!

In our yurt their was a guestbook but true to me and My husband The Viking’s fashion we did not read the guest book until the very end.  What is funny about that is that their was a knife stuck in a tree next to the yurt and we didn’t realize it was tradition to find the knife so of course my husband saw it way up in the tree and rigged together a MacGiver type device and of course found a way to get the knife out of the tree.  Once we figured out it was tradition we had to hide the knife somewhere else on the property it was pretty funny!

Thanks for sharing our memories with us!
my siggie :)
