My husband the Viking in my Life loves, loves, loves, growing hot peppers. I don’t…..I don’t want to eat them, I don’t want to use them, I don’t want to chance breathing in their spicy aroma….but these peppers are his passion! He loves hot peppers the way I love sweet peppers! I guess in this way we are a good balance for each other 🙂
Here are some pics of him stringing up his peppers to dry!
A funny story recently we were making our “Sweet Pepper Mustard” to share during this holiday season and my husband had picked some peppers for me. I said to him some of those look like hot peppers and he assured me that they were not and he had tested them all. We were going to be driving my son to youth group that night so I had washed and cored all of the peppers and was going to leave them in the colander draining while we stepped out briefly. I am quite certain I breathed in something strong that caught in my throat if you are sensitive to spice as I am you would understand there is Tabasco sauce and then there is HOT sauce. I am a Tabasco sauce kind of gal! Well he assured me again that their were not hot peppers in the mix so I was perplexed. On the drive to drop my son off my top lip started burning and so did my fingers and so it was then that I told my husband that I was fairly certain he was incorrect and when we got home he tested the suspicious pepper and confirmed that I was indeed correct on this one issue. Always be sure of the peppers you are working with if possible.
The peppers he is processing are Habanero and Hot Cherries. By the way note that he is wearing latex gloves you do not want to get this on you or in your eyes at all! Be very careful when handling hot peppers……I don’t like to handle them so I don’t….The oils on these peppers will linger in the air if you breathe them in they can be just as dangerous.
Also hot peppers are extremely festive looking but don’t get too close! By the way my husband gave me a pepper corer for Christmas…..now I have to learn how to use it 😉 I am so used to just using a paring knife.
Have a great Holiday Season!
I am going to do some hot cherries this year I think.
I am sure we can share some hot pepper seeds with you!
I really wish I had frozen some hot peppers last summer, they are so expensive! But great for helping to clear out colds and congestion.
I know I can’t believe how expensive peppers are in the winter. I need some pepper therapy for a cold I am fighting right now. Thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year!
