Seed Ordering, Swapping, and Saving

I told my husband tonight we were going to need to order more seeds and he laughed at me saying that he didn’t know where we were going to put any more seeds.

Well I told him one can never have too many seeds.  I know I need more onion sets and I know I need more of my favorite hybrid peppers.  Yes I don’t exclusively plant with heirlooms while they are wonderful our sandy soil does very well with hybrids too.

So we lined up our seeds we are going to start for our garden, we also lined up the seeds for our seed swapping train we are on, then we lined up the seeds for our plant sales we participate in and then I remembered my garden will be starting soon.

I want to plant potatoes again they are easy, the peanuts were so much fun to watch grow and even the Jerusalem artichokes while they did not do well in our sandy soil were fun too.   I can never have too many tomatoes or peppers I can them and freeze them.   It’s never ever a dull moment around here.  I get to find beautiful eggs in the coop everyday, the bees are coming and going and everywhere I turn around a new plant will be springing up out of the earth or containers.

We are just right around the corner from Spring…..in just a few more days it will be February.  Where did January go?  Have a great Sunday everyone!  Also I want to take a moment to welcome all my new followers……..I always look forward to hearing from all of you!

Fondly,
my siggie :)

  1. I started some, but I still have a lot to do. I’m sure I’ll have excess, but I’m always afraid that I won’t have enough. We are expanding some this year so I wasn’t really sure how much of what I would end up needing. And you know I’m addicted to ordering more as well. I still need to get some hot peppers, a couple more tomato varieties, and we are going to put in more strawberries, some raspberries and a couple hazelnuts.

    1. Hazelnuts fascinating! I will have to give you an update on my almond tree…..I will be ordering some more but not as much as in years past…..but you did remind me that I need to order some more strawberry runners…..I found them very inexpensive somewhere last year now if I could only remember. I always say I am going to cut back but then I don’t…;)

  2. Someday I really want to try growing produce in my backyard. It really is tight finances right now,but I’m not giving up. I do live on the central coast of California, less than a mile from the ocean. The area of town where I live has sun…definiltely, but also lost of shade. I don’t even know what will grow here 🙂 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading more about what you will be growing yourself. It sounds really interesting. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

    1. Heather as the crow flies we are 2.6 miles from the ocean…..definitely takes longer to drive there though…..we have had to do a lot of container gardening and raised beds. Be on the look out for a local gardening group the group I am in we do lots of sharing seeds and plants that is a great way to get started! Also I do some seed swapping online too a great way to diversify a few seed packets if that is all you get started with! I will be checking back to your blog as well!

I Love Hearing From All Of You! Thanks for sharing!
