My husband loves his bees!
Here is a video of him inspecting the bee hives today! I was quiet actually so there is no chatter on the video but here in coastal North Carolina it was a beautiful day today!
This is the time of year bee keepers need to inspect their hives and make sure their brood is not in the top of the hives, check the stores, check the brood pattern, and check for the queen. You can see he is concentrating in the video. This spring I will be getting suited up and working the hives with him.
Have a great Sunday everyone!

OK, I think your hubby is brave to work with bees 🙂 ): I’m a little bee chicken 🙂 🙂 🙂 However, I sure do love buying raw honey at the store 🙂 🙂 It looks like the hive (in the video) is doing okay 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂
I was at first too Heather… more and more I have spent more time with them and got closer and closer to them. I am not nearly as nervous as I would have been if someone just told me to suit up and have at it.
You’re so lucky! It’s still freezing here in northern PA. We’re checking to make sure they still have food!
Sharon the only concern is that this weather may make the bees act strange and we could still get a cold spell.
Starting a hive is on my goals list for 2012. I bake with honey so often in my breads that I feel like I need to do this. I am buying local honey which is good but having a hand in our own is better. So happy for you! Terrific post.
Thanks so much Tamatha! I agree honey is a staple in our own home I bake, cook with it and use it in all sorts of recipes. My frustration is running out of good local honey and then having to just eat grocery store honey. I hope you keep on with your dream of keeping bees!
Wow I bet it gets short cold up there in the winter. We were at a bee keeping meeting the other day and one if the ladies said that their Dad kept bees in the rafters of their barn. I wonder if something like that would offer your bees more shelter but I doubt its common practice today.
Well even in this area in Coastal North Carolina people worry about over wintering their bees……good luck with it and keep me posted!
He really is diligent. I look forward to your beekeeping posts. I hope to have a hive of my own someday. My great grandfather was a beekeeper.
