The other day I was out on the deck and I was bending over and I smelled a savory smell and I looked down and I saw our lovely Bay Laurel Tree. I read that no house is complete without one can’t remember where I read that but I have to say I absolutely agree! This plant has beautiful glossy green leaves and it is one of the plants that are used for the seasoning “bay leaf”. Pretty cool huh?
We purchased our Bay Laurel from a local gardener because I just had to have one this gardener is one that I trust and feel completely comfortable buying her plants and one of her yard workers told me……keep it in full sun and don’t over water it and well it has done quite well. It even gets that hot afternoon sun and as long as you put it on the side of the deck where the shade hits first it does wonderfully!
I have to tell you I will harvest some Bay leaves off our little tree but I am hoping that it will get bigger and stronger before I consider it harvest worthy. There is nothing like a homemade beef stew cooked all day with a bay leaf or two in it. It is rich and aromatic and delicious! One local gardener told me that the Bay Laurel is in danger and not doing well in our area but we have been fortunate and ours is doing great!
I just had to share it with all of you! Have any of you tried your hand at growing a Bay Laurel Tree? If so did you have any luck?
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
Fondly,

Oddly enough I have one growing out front in a pot from clippings from my father in laws tree… his plant is massive….
That is awesome! Have you used it for cooking? I am curious.
I tried once, but they died during the summer. My friend had success rooting them in a vase of water.
We need to definitely try to root ours then I would love to have more and to share with gardening friends too. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Samantha if you do keep me posted on the progress of your tree! They love full late afternoon sun and they need to stay on the drier side but you do need to remember to water….good luck!
