Welcome to our new series!  The Suburban Off Grid Cooking Series!

As part of this series we will be reviewing the All American Sun Oven over the next couple of weeks but I didn’t want to deliver a review to you at the end and tell you all about it.  I want you guys to join in with us on this experience as we explore different ways to cook off-grid on our suburban homestead!

As part of our off grid cooking series one of the main products we will be reviewing as I mentioned is the All American Sun Oven and I have to say just upon my initial thoughts as I opened the box is that it is a beautiful and well made product!  The look and feel of this product exceeded my expectations before I even really got the box open.

Before you can use your sun oven you need to remove it from all of it’s packaging and clean it with a very simple process.  So today with the beautiful afternoon we had my husband and I unpacked it and set it up in our front yard where the sun was of course and we got it ready for the cleaning process.

There is a nicely built stand on the back for you to angle your sun oven to the sun. (Shown Above)

The other thing that amazed me because I have not done tons of solar cooking and when we used to have our own homemade solar oven it took forever to heat up! This oven heats up quick I mean they aren’t kidding when they tell you to have your oven mitts ready!

Now of course I had to wait and do this after work but I guess that was another advantage to me is how quickly it heat up!

In the front you can see the holes where you need to have the sun line up it might take a minute or two of lining up and that’s the extent of the hard work really little to none.

The hardest part of getting your sun oven set up may well be peeling the cellophane wrapper off of the panels LOL but I must say they are pristine and beautiful once they are unwrapped!

To clean your All American Sun Oven all you have to do is get it nice and hot and put it in the sun (with the sun lined up to the holes) and open up the reflectors and let it get good and hot it takes about 20 minutes and then place 3 cups of vinegar into a pot inside the oven.  We used one of the pots that come with the All American Sun Oven with Dehydrating and Preparedness Accessory Package and that’s it folks it was that simple!

So I am excited because I am going to be cooking some very delicious gluten free recipes in this sun oven and I am going to share every step of my experience along the way so you have an accurate and fair reporting of this product!

You may want to know why I would even need a solar cooker like the All American Sun Oven?  Well that is going to be discussed on my next blog post…..the Why would I want to purchase one for my preps?  What could possibly happen that I would ever need one and I think you may be surprised at my answers or maybe not we’ll see!

So far I’m impressed!  We are looking forward to this adventure hope you are too!

Wishing you all a beautiful week!

Fondly,

    1. I am so excited about trying different recipes with this sun oven! It’s an impressive product and I am looking forward to it 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  2. Excited to hear from someone first hand. This is on my list of future purchases. Will be following along! Good lucks

  3. I just started using my All American Sun oven. One thing I found during the cleaning/setup process was that the vinegar fog dried almost instantly when I removed the pan with the vinegar in it. I dried on the backside of the clear cover and I had to scrub it off.

So far the only thing I’ve cooked in it was a pot of pinto beans, red peppers and onions I was eating with cornbread, but I am impressed and am looking forward to learning how to use it for more dishes. (Love the self-levelling rack).

Mine did not come with the cookbook CD (just the bread pans, pots and racks) so I’m truly learning from scratch. Fortunately, here in sunny Kingman, AZ, I have lots of days I can use it.

    1. Ray thanks for sharing your experience and also what you are cooking with it! I am hoping to work on my first recipe in the next week! Exciting times! Yes In Sunny Arizona I bet you can use it alot!

  4. Karen, I am loving my sun oven too. So far everything has cooked perfectly and we have a lot of tree cover to contend with. Last night we had meatloaf and that of course, will be my next sun oven review post! – janet
