Book Review: The Do It Yourself Homestead
Hello friends,
Hope all is well with all of you this week. I certainly was sad to see October leave us; it sure was a beautiful month. I am very excited to share with you my review of my good friend at Homestead Lady Tessa Zundel’s book “The Do It Yourself Homestead” and I have to say this may be the perfect gift for the homesteader in your life. Her book is loaded and I mean loaded with great information. It may just well be the most all encompassing book on the topic of homesteading that I have read to date.
Tessa does break the book down into manageable sections which was one thing that I in particular was attracted to when I first read it. The second thing I really liked was that there truly was something for everyone. Her practical wisdom and sunny disposition make you want to engage with her and learn more!
Hot Topics In Homesteading Are Definitely Covered
Gardening
Chickens
Food Preservation
and much more!
Questions She Addresses in her book:
Do you know where to place your garden?
Do you know where to begin to raise chickens?
Do you even know where to begin to make sauerkraut?
Do you know how to start long-term planning for homesteading?
One of the things that I love about Tessa’s book is her practical advice and quotes from some of the experts in the homesteading field. She breaks the book up in to easy to read chapters a which I want to mention this to you again because if you listen to her interview below that was by design. It’s a big book but don’t let it intimidate you it’s very reader friendly. Tessa also shares her favorite homesteading reads along with some fabulous resources that means you don’t have to start from scratch this is the primer that will help you more efficiently get you started on your journey with wisdom from others who have gone before you.
To hear the radio show where I interviewed Tessa about her book click here.
I hope you enjoy this show as much as I enjoyed having her on. Tessa is such a great guest, and not only is she fun but she is extremely knowledgeable on her subject!
But more obscure topics are covered that you might not have thought about and I won’t list them all here because this is a book you definitely need to check out and purchase a copy trust me! I could tell you much more about the book but here’s the deal whether you are a brand new homesteader, a seasoned homesteader, or just a homesteading die hard this book will have something for you. We started homesteading in a rural setting in 1989 and I have learned a bunch from this book.
It is never to late to learn something new!
