Growing Turmeric & Enjoying It’s Health Benefits
The Viking in my life had an idea on growing turmeric on our little homestead. I was not sure how it was going to grow, so I put it on the back burner in my mind until a couple of weeks ago. He shared with me that he was going to go harvest the turmeric. I was like, “Oh yeah, that’s right…I forgot about this, kind of!”
One of my favorite things about growing turmeric or all garden goodies for that matter, is that initially it’s a fairly low risk investment. I say this because once you establish a healthy crop on your homestead and you lose it due to a frost or hail or wind, that statement changes and it’s complete heartbreak to lose a good, healthy harvest.
We plant with heirloom, hybrid, and seeds from produce we get from farmers and even from the grocery store. We are not exclusive as they all need to continue to grow and hybrid seeds have ensured a healthy crop of peppers for us before when heirloom seeds were struggling. I just put in our latest seed order with Botanical Interests as they have really impressed me lately with their seed viability!
