Happy New Year & My One Word For 2018 is “Simplify”…What Is Your One Word?

Wow!  This holiday season flew by so fast, but it was filled with time with family, friends, and great memories!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday even if it was just finding time to rest and restore or reflect on your one word.    The Viking and I spent a relatively quiet New Years Eve watching  old Seinfeld episodes which were absolutely hilarious.  Also, in regard to my new one word we cancelled our New Years Day gathering this year to have it at a time of year when things are a little bit slower for us.  It felt odd not entertaining that first day of the year but we got used to it and enjoyed the quiet unrushed day.

When we do have our soup and cider gathering sometime in February or March you can best bet I’ll be making my famous  Brunswick Stew and my Frugal Fish Stew which is tradition around our lil’ homestead!

This holiday season already embodied in a way my one word for 2018. It was quieter and more time was spent with family. Family members who are no longer with us were not far from my heart. Some fun moments were going with my nieces and family to the UNCW Women’s Basketball game to cheer on Coach Karen Barefoot and her team! The Viking and I also made our very first Beef Wellington on Christmas Eve as we celebrated this holiday with our children.

See our Instagram Beef Wellington Reveal below:

I asked for gifts from local artists. The Viking got me a beautiful art work tapestry made by Rebekah Todd a local musician/artist in our area. He also got me some Sea Love Sea Salt hand harvest from Wrightsville Beach, NC from our good friend Amanda. I purchased him some amazing music from one of our favorite band’s Brothers Egg and some new bluetooth earbuds!

These are a few of my favorite things! All handmade in #nc #shoplocal #art #foodiechats

It was a simple, quiet holiday. Well, as quiet as I can stand it! 😉

Then this week the snow came in…it was crazy! I mean we do not get snow in coastal, North Carolina that often. It was so beautiful!

Snow is rare around these parts! It was beautiful after it first came down! #snowday18 #nc #snow

At least, the Viking in my life prepared us for the cold!

I cleaned off our bookshelves as well as my office and now tomorrow I need to finally get to my closet….yes I must! I so want to post before and after pics for all of you but I’m fairly certain that you will all think we are completely crazy once you see this pic!

Today I found out that we are confirmed to present at the Mother Earth News Fair again! Yes, it’s true! More to come on this. But head on over to the Mother Earth News Fair website and check out all the presenters. Click here.

So, the trick to simplifying and being me working full time, going to school part time, blogging, gardening, and enjoying my passions of fishing, reading, and bargain hunting. Any ideas and help are much appreciated but I will share with all of you what I find out that is working for me and how it might apply to you as well.

What is up on your homestead? You know how I feel and that homesteading is a state of mind so if you proclaim yourself a homesteader since it’s a spirit or an attitude well then you are one!

Thank you all for being on the journey with us! We are so grateful for all of you! You can find more of our holiday photos at our Instagram here! Are you following the Viking and I?

Happy New Year! I wish you all a beautiful week….until next time!

Fondly,

siggie
